Veteran catalogue retailers move production offshore
Although Denny’s started working with Express KCS’ UK-based account management they quickly moved onto using the Indian team directly. “None of the negative clichés about Indian service were true with Express KCS’ Indian account handing staff. They understood what we were looking for and were understandable in their responses – it couldn’t have worked more smoothly. All the more so as our printer was German, but there were no hitches there either.”
The Loft Shop, the specialist building supplies retailer that has traded continually since the 1920s, also
made the change from local design and prepress to Express KCS’ services. Marjory Kay, Publicity manager responsible for the catalogue range at The Loft Shop was more interested in capacity and availability – though the lower pricing of an India-based

supplier didn’t hurt her decision. “We were looking for a company that could turn around layouts quickly for us, and help us bring our design up to date. After some early trials, it was quite clear that Express KCS’ had the capacity we needed. For us, their local account management makes working with studios in Delhi easy and we will be moving all work to them over the coming months.”
Robert Berkeley, CEO of Express KCS said that these new clients were a significant win for the company. “Well-established and highly successful business like these don’t remain market leaders for eighty years or more by throwing caution to the wind. If they had not found working with Express KCS a totally positive experience, they wouldn’t have taken this decision. The fact that they count on us as a key supplier says a lot for our understanding of the retail catalogue business.”
